The great thing about sweaters, V-neck in particular is not just how they look, but how they feel. Sweaters are really comfortable when they fit well. You don't want the sweater to hug your body like a skintight under armour shirt, but at the same time, it shouldn't hang off creating a baggy look, it should tightly hug your body.
Men's V-neck sweaters can be worn casually and somewhat formally, whether you're just hanging with friends or if you're going to a dinner or an important meeting with business partners or clients.
When wearing them formally, with a suit or a jacket, make sure the sweater isn't too clingy on the shirt because that'd make the jacket look really funny. Rock your sweaters casually with a jean or some other casual pants as far as you feel really comfortable and you don't have to keep adjusting every time.
